MATCH REPORT : Beverley Whitestar Rams 6 v 4 Driffield Tigers

After a run of recent cup games Beverley were glad to get back to league action and took on Driffield Tigers at Leconfield Recreation Ground. Beverley started the game well with fluid passing and pressed Driffield. Despite the early pressure from the home team it was Driffield who scored first when a counter attack sprung the off-side and enabled the striker to finish well one on one with Rams keeper Lewis Richardson. The Beverley coaches were positive from the touch line and they gained a great response from the team, an attacking front line of Max Hollaway, Ollie Baldwin and Ben Hearfield began to exploit their possession and create chances. From further pressure from Baldwin, Beverley gained the equalizer from an own goal. Rams then took the lead when Tom Bruce struck from a curling free kick. With plenty of the half remaining Beverley turned the screw, Hearfield sent in a good cross and Dennis Bailey popped in a great diving header a fourth was then added when Ollie Baldwin broke free and lashed a great shot wide into the top of the net. Beverley started the second half sluggish and allowed a well organised Driffield team back into the [...]

An American Brings Shakespeare to the Wolds

Ruth Gordon-Morton, an American ex-pat living in Driffield, East Yorkshire is bringing Colin David Reese to perform his one act play Shakespeare Unbound at the North Dalton Village Hall on February 23, 2013. Mr. Reese is a British actor and director with more than forty years of experience. He has shared a stage with icons such as Sir John Gielgud, Alan Bennett and Nigel Hawthorne. At forty years old, he moved to Paris to spend two years as a student at the Ecole Internationale du Theatre with Jacques Lecoq. Colin Reese wrote Shakespeare Unbound after years of research into the vast body of writings about Shakespeare, the theatre of his time, the social place of players (actors) in Elizabethan/Jacobean life and a curiosity regarding what it must have been like to be a player on the boards of The Theatre, The Globe and The Blackfriars. He came to the conclusion that Shakespeare’s works were not to be considered philosophy or literature, but written to be performed live on stage, bringing the characters to life and enchanting the audience. Shakespeare Unbound is written from the viewpoint of John Heminges, a life-long friend of “young Will”. Throughout Shakespeare’s life, he has been [...]

Bright Careers Beckon For Two Sporting Williamsons Solicitors

Two newly qualified lawyers are realising their ambitions with permanent positions at Williamsons Solicitors. Hull-based Lucy Ordidge is in the industrial disease department, while Rachel Stott is in the family department, working from Driffield. Their careers have blossomed after a period of intense legal study and in-house training for the two 26-year-olds. Ms Ordidge joined Williamsons Solicitors, at its head office on Lowgate, in 2010 for six months as a paralegal, officially qualifying as a solicitor in 2012 while on a training contract with the firm. She is at the heart of the department’s claimant side work, representing defendants with industrial diseases or conditions, such as hearing loss, in their negotiations with insurers. The young lawyer likes going head-to-head in court with opposing barristers. “I really enjoy the advocacy side of the job and being in court representing our clients against barristers acting for the big insurance firms,” said Ms Ordidge, who organises industrial disease clinics in Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield, while keeping abreast of case law developments. After graduating with a BA in philosophy from the University of Hull in 2008, Ms Ordidge completed a one-year graduate law conversion at BPP Law School in Leeds, doing the equivalent of a [...]

DRIFFIELD : Networking Group Local Links Set Up In Driffield

A networking event has been arranged for local voluntary and community groups in and around Driffield on Wednesday, 5 June, 6-7.30pm, at Cass Hall. Local Links is already running in other parts of the East Riding, such as Driffield, Beverley and Holderness. A variety of different groups attend, such as local churches, U3A groups, Help the Aged, town and parish councils and housing associations. All local groups are welcome. The aim of the event is to give groups the opportunity to network with each other and highlight opportunities for working together or offering support. There are also presentations from different organisations, such as the Credit Union, the council’s funding team and the East Riding Voluntary Action Service (ERVAS), in response to issues raised by groups. This session will ask the different groups what they would like to get out of future meetings and who they would like to hear from. They will each be given the chance to promote their group and explain what they do. A light tea and refreshments will also be available. If you would like to attend, contact Vicky Neilan, vicky.bolton@eastriding.gov.uk or 07785721129, to confirm your place. Use Facebook to Comment on this Post Tags: Beverley, [...]
